Packing Your Unit

  • You want to make sure, if space allows, to leave an aisle for easy access to the items in the rear of the unit
  • Place the items you are going to access the most in the front of the unit, and the ones you will never need, in the rear of the unit.
  • Shelving helps to maximize the access of your items.
  • Leave air space between every item and the walls for ventilation.
  • Always put the heavy items on the bottom and light or awkward items on the top.
  • Cover furniture with a dust cover or sheet.

Packing Your Item

  • Be sure everything you pack is clean and dry to prevent moths and mildew.
  • New boxes are clean. Boxes of the same size stack more easily.
  • Have more boxes than you think you may need. Almost always, you will find you have underestimated.
  • Allow plenty of time for packing.
  • Pack heavy items separately from fragile items. Use small boxes for heavy items, and large boxes for lighter items. Keep boxes at a “normal” weight to avoid back injury.
  • Fill boxes completely to avoid collapse. Seal with quality packing tape. Number or label boxes for easy identification.
  • Be sure to utilize all storage space within your items, like drawers.
